ABOUT US
Our researchers bring together diverse disciplines, methods, and lived experiences to uncover overlooked perspectives, examine complex social realities, and transform knowledge into meaningful insight and action.
About Huma
Our story
HUMA began as a collective of researchers, practitioners, activists, and knowledge workers who believed that research should do more than document society. Knowledge should return to the people and places from which it emerges. It should be accessible, meaningful, and capable of helping communities understand and transform their own conditions.
What began as a shared commitment to rigorous, grounded, and ethical research has developed into an epistemic community and interdisciplinary think tank rooted in Indonesia. HUMA brings together different disciplines, methods, perspectives, and lived experiences to produce knowledge that reflects the complexity of Indonesian society.
Our work includes interdisciplinary research, knowledge translation and dissemination, participatory monitoring, evaluation and learning, and context-sensitive technical assistance. Across these areas, we connect scholarship with lived realities and ensure that knowledge does not remain confined to academic or institutional spaces.
Today, HUMA continues to build a house for critical and independent knowledge—a place where researchers belong, communities can recognise themselves in the knowledge produced about them, and ideas become practical tools for justice, accountability, and social change.
Knowledge produced here. Not extracted from here.
We believe that knowledge should help people understand their realities, make informed decisions, and create meaningful change—regardless of their discipline, community, or field of work.
